outfit | killing me softly

I swoon!

Over these photos taken by Jesse Smith and particularly over this Bianca chiffon duster from SWAK.

Margot Meanie | rebellious plus size style, wearing SWAK designs

bianca chiffon duster – c/o SWAK | lace short – my collection from c/o Cool Gal Blue {sold out, similar in cream} | crop top – forever 21 + {sold out} | wide brim fedora – forever 21 | pointy toe flat lace up booties – urbanog

I told you you’d get sick of this hat!!! But it’s in one more outfit from this shoot day, so bare with me.

I have to say, I felt pretty powerful in this outfit. The duster would catch the breeze and I felt like a frickin model! This is going to be very popular over a simple outfit of black leggings with a tank and it will notch the fashion level up on such a comfy and simple outfit.

It comes in two prints, but my heart belongs to black lace, so it was the obvious pick for me!

It’s just so pretty!

Something else about these photos, I am wearing ankle booties, with bare legs. This is something young me would have never done. I used to HATE my stems with a fiery passion. If I wore anything that cut me off above the ankle I thought I looked atrocious. But now, my legs may just be my favourite body part! I love showing them off and I get compliments all the time!

Just goes to show, that tailoring your media can open your eyes that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. And it allows you the chance to see it in yourself and in others.

outfit | young girls, they do get weary

Canadian alternative plus size blogger, MArgot Meanie in Missguided, Addition Elle & f21+

I posted on facebook about how much I adore the 80’s movie Pretty in Pink and how much it has { and continues to } influenced my personal style.

I like to think there is no single character that speaks to my style senses more than any other and though I thoroughly enjoy everyone’s style so very much I just can’t help but fall head over heels for Duckie, his style { and character } is my fav.

I was extremely fortunate to win a gift certificate from The Curvy Fashionista’s 6 year anniversary giveaway month, back in December.  She had so many giveaways that month, it was amazing, she spoiled everyone rotten.  I was lucky to snap up one of six gc’s to Missguided.

I had a hard time choosing what to spend my winnings on, especially with their lovely new plus size range, but I settled on only one item from the plus range, as these shoes won my heart instantly.

The love I have for these shoes…they are just so killer cool, with their patent leather shininess, pointed toe, gold buckles and subtle platform….I just knew Duckie would approve!

My second item was this really cute cropped tartan jacket.  I ordered it in a size up as I wanted to be able to layer with it, and I’ve happy I did.  Though with sizing up, it’s not as cropped as I hoped it would be.  But, happily, I am able to do some tailoring myself and plan on taking about 2-2.5″ off the bottom so it hits where I want it to.

I’m also rocking some older jeans I picked up from f21 maybe last year or the year before.  I wasn’t getting a lot of wear out of them recently, but then I decided to rip out the knees and I can’t stop wearing them now!

And lastly, this sweater is my boyfriend sweater that I won from PS it’s Fashions give away from a few months back, I already featured it here.  I just love this sweater and I don’t know how this escaped my notice, as I  have been wearing it constantly since it has arrived, but while sitting in the pub with my sister in law one afternoon, about a week ago maybe, I realised it has elbow patches!!

I ♥ elbow patches.

They are the same material and not contrasted, so I guess that’s why I hadn’t noticed before, but boy, did I feel like a dunce!

What are some of your biggest style influences?  Does it come from movies, music, magazines, bloggers?  Let me know as I would love to see!

oh and here’s a little Duckie and the reason for the blog title….

outfit | your favourite colour is that of red wine

monochrome & lens flare // margot meanie

There is no colour in this post, other than the lens flare {look out JJ Abrams!} so the name of this post is misleading, the words are lyrics from a song that is often playing in the back of my mind,

“your favourite colour is that of red wine, which leads me to your favourite past time”

If you scroll to the bottom, the song is ready to play.  It’s pretty mellow.

This is just a simple black and white outfit.  I’m dying to get my hands on a couple black blazers.  I really want a nice cropped one, a sturdy basic one, as well as a long line blazer, a tuxedo blazer and a long line sleeveless blazer.  But for now, my draped cardigan will have to do.

leggings – ASOS {these were the same ones a couple of posts ago}, blouse – forever 21 {similarsimilar mine is sleeveless, these both have sleeves}, vest, reitmans+ from yeeeeears ago, shoes & cardigan are thrifted

Here are a few of the blazers I’ve been lusting after

This week, in lieu of my normal {friday i’m in love} I am joining a amazingly fun group of bloggers and participating in a fun challenge! (this helps as I have been away for the week and not seen any outfits to post)

The challenge is to recreate the look of a Style Icon!  At first I toyed with ideas are Marlene Dietrich, but I just don’t have the proper pant suits I’d like in order to portray her, so my mind pondered and Anna Piaggi floated to the top pretty quick!

I have always been a HUGE fan of the a particular part of the fashion elite known as the eccentrics!  I adore their wild abandon when it comes to fashion and love how many of them act as muses for talented designers.  For them, fashion is truly a way of life and everyday is a work of art!

I recreated 3 looks by her and had an absolute blast playing with the theatrical make up, whimsical accessories and textures in the items she choose.

I admire her gusto and zest for eccentricity!

This weeks participants in the Style Icon Challenge are:

//  Michelle from Zaftigtimes

//  Aarti from Curves Become Her

//  Zadry from Curves à la Mode

// Veronica from Cid Style File

This was a lot of fun to do, though extremely hot!  Summer plus hat & fur & layers is a crazy mix!!

I cannot wait to see what each lady did!  I’m so happy to have the chance to participate!

This week marked a huge collaborative event in the French Curves group {man I wish I could speak french fluently, I am very much a novice} in which they were instructed to recreate a look.

Assa chose to replicate a look by Miroslava Duma, who is a former editor of Harper’s Bazaar Russia.  These two pieces aren’t actually a matching suit, but I’m so impressed with how close they look!  Click here to see the original, I think she did a perfect tribute!

You can follow Assa on her blog , facebook or instagram!

3// Rosa from Rosariummmm // Clueless Chick

Rosa’s timing could not have been better, as I was searching for a third bad ass girl who has suited up,  there she was, at the top of my instagram feed in a super cute skirt suit!

Perfectly reminiscent of “Clueless”,  she’s rocking this suit in style and I adore it!  Can you believe she re-purposed this from an old suit from the 80’s her mom gave her?!! Brilliant!

Hello chiffon!! Easily my favourite fabric of the summer, especially when used with a maxi!! I adore this monochrome ombre chiffon maxi.

She looks so perfectly edgy with her flaming red hair, bowler hat & nose piercing! I swoon!

Those white frames are pretty kickin’ as well!

I have just found Nadia on instagram and I am smitten beyond belief with her cute stylishness!

I adore her all black outfit with a helleva statement necklace in silver.  The added leopard slippers are just the right bad ass touch along with a black leather jacket, which I’m pretty sure might be the definition of “edgy”, go look it up, I’ll wait 😉

This gal is SUCH a cutie patootie!!  Her blog is in Finnish, so when it translates I’m always a bit baffled, but she seems like a ton of fun!

This look is adorable edgy!  The stripy 3/4 length tee is awesome, paired with this full midi skirt and bright yellow tights!  I love her hair and BIG round shades!

Side note, her pose in this shot somewhat reminds me of the tightrope portrait in Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion!

It’s not a surprise that I am a HUGE fan of black chiffon and I absolutely LOVE maxi’s as well!  What a perfect summer look!

I adore the long line cardi too, and who doesn’t love a classic, over sized, designer bag to make the perfect “yes, I’m effortlessly chic” statement?

Just gorgeous!

Dionne from Superzie my Fashion // friday i'm in love #26 // Dionne from Superzie my Fashion // friday i'm in love #26 //

Oh my goodness, how fabulous does Dionne look in this absolutely gorgeous dress from the ASOS Salon line???  I have been wanting to write a piece on being a modern flapper girl with the Salon dresses as the key items!

She just looks beyond glamorous!  She got the look spot on and I’m super jealous that I don’t have this entire ensemble in my closet right meow!!

The jewelry she chose is perfect and the shoes are a lovely contrast to the dark dress, but still have just as much glitz and that purse is so much fun!

wishlist // the clutch

One thing about being a fashion or style blogger is you are always looking for the perfect accent to your outfit.  Some sort of punctuation and a clutch can be just that item!

I really love the trend of an over sized clutch lately, but even just a small clutch can compliment an outfit so nicely.  It’s a wonderful statement in taste!

I’ve been finding my clothing choices lately to be very monochrome, which works well, since it seems to be fairly on trend.  But I find myself wanting a little something extra for each look and I think it’s the clutch that’s been missing!

These are a few of my top clutches I’ve seen while online window shopping lately!  (Don’t forget that hologram clutch from last weeks ASOS wishlist as well!!)

1//Patent Leatherette Clutch – Forever 21. Cute and ready for a party & it’s on sale for $13.99!!

2//Nali 3D Stone Clutch Bag – ASOS, I love how bold this bag is! It’s large, bright yellow and studded! Be still, my beating heart!

3//Cutwork Clutch, SimplyBe, I adore the laser cut and the bright pink underlay! I also love that this one comes with a crossbody strap!

4//Vegas Cutout Clutch, Fashion to Figure.  I have been enamored with this bag since GarnerStyle posted it on facebook a couple months ago.  It also comes in a great yellow, but is sadly sold out in that colour right meow.

5//Modernist Faux Leather Clutch, Forever 21. Ultra simple & chic clutch that will work with absolutely any outfit!

6//Elusive Edition Bag, ModCloth.  This novelty clutch has a curious whimsy to it that just draws me in.  Absolutely perfect for witchy days or Harry Potter inspired outfits!!

What kind of bag are you coveting right now?

PS.  If you are wanting to see more of what I’m up to, like what I’m reading or listening to, or more ootd’s, make sure to follow me on instagram & facebook!

I’m busy trying to get used to my new laptop (YAY!).  It’s an HP and I’m sad to admit how dreadful I am now with PCs these day’s as I’ve spent all my time on macs for the last four years.  I was even thinking about downloading a skin to make it run like OS just so I can get my bearings.

I’m doubly excited this week,  because in addition to my new computer I also have plans to head out with a friend to take some proper & professional shots with his new camera!  I’m really looking forward to that, as I’m hating the grainy low quality photos I’ve been posting lately with my ipad.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my ipad dearly, it’s been really helpful to still get outfit shots done, but the camera is not the best and if it’s an overcast day, I loose the ability to take even halfway decent shots.

// what I wore //

I love monochrome, as you’ve probably noticed, most of my wardrobe is either black / white / grey or  off white.  My wardrobe is always running slim on pattern and colour.

This week I wore one of my favourite tops that I have owned FOREVER!  I sometimes think of letting it go, but something makes me keep it.  And Every time I wear it, I’m thankful I never let it go!

This skirt is just a perfect pleated skater skirt I got last winter while down in Las Vegas.  It’s the perfect basic and just makes so many outfits!

The real inspiration for this outfit though comes from the earrings.  They’re just tiny Eiffel tower danglies that I inherited from my Mother-in-law and I’ve always treasured them.  I know they are not worth a lot of money and that you can get these little trinkets on every street corner in Paris, but it still does nothing to diminish their charm for me!

They’re cute and remind me of Paris, a city that I truly love and can’t wait to go visit again.  Perhaps someday I’ll have an apartment there!
