This week, in lieu of my normal {friday i’m in love} I am joining a amazingly fun group of bloggers and participating in a fun challenge! (this helps as I have been away for the week and not seen any outfits to post)

The challenge is to recreate the look of a Style Icon!  At first I toyed with ideas are Marlene Dietrich, but I just don’t have the proper pant suits I’d like in order to portray her, so my mind pondered and Anna Piaggi floated to the top pretty quick!

I have always been a HUGE fan of the a particular part of the fashion elite known as the eccentrics!  I adore their wild abandon when it comes to fashion and love how many of them act as muses for talented designers.  For them, fashion is truly a way of life and everyday is a work of art!

I recreated 3 looks by her and had an absolute blast playing with the theatrical make up, whimsical accessories and textures in the items she choose.

I admire her gusto and zest for eccentricity!

This weeks participants in the Style Icon Challenge are:

//  Michelle from Zaftigtimes

//  Aarti from Curves Become Her

//  Zadry from Curves à la Mode

// Veronica from Cid Style File

This was a lot of fun to do, though extremely hot!  Summer plus hat & fur & layers is a crazy mix!!

I cannot wait to see what each lady did!  I’m so happy to have the chance to participate!

july wishlist // urbanog shoes

urbanog shoes // wishlist // margot meanie

// Kitty Embroidered Loafer in black or gold

// Breckelle Gina-21 Strappy Almond Toe Ankle Bootie in soft peach

//Bamboo Becca Sandal Platform Wedge in black

// Popi-3 Leatherette Buckle Cut Out Open Toe Chunky Heel in black

// Wild Diva Lounge Elfi-04 Open Toe Wedge Bootie in black

// Breckelle Bahama-11 Mesh Strappy Open Toe Bootie in black

// Qupid Tuxedo-24 Cut Out Lace Up Almond Toe Oxford Flat in camel

// Vibe Two Tone Ankle Strap Open Toe Heel in white or metallic black

If I had the budget, I could easily turn into one of those girls with a “shoe problem”  though  I would never see it as a problem, as you’d always have the shoes you wish you had for each outfit variation!

I’m really digging all the big chunky shoes lately.  They totally remind me of the nineties, though a tad more chic.  I’m also falling for other styles, which I never thought I’d go for, like strappy heels, kinda ugly yet cool booties or tobacco colour flats.

It’s a whole new world of fashion I’ve opened myself up to and I’m LOVING every minute of it….even more so if I could own them all!

These are my top picks after perusing around urbanog’s MASSIVE shoe selection.  They are all fast fashion finds, which means they are cheap cheap cheap, making it a lot easier to own all the trendy shoes you’re currently coveting.  Seriously, the most expensive pair here is $40 the cheapest is $15!!  You definitely need to hunt through, as they have some gawd awful footwear in there and some strange and fascinating {almost of the verge of avant garde, if matched with the right outfit}  items as well, but I have no doubt you’ll find some shoes that appeal to your tastes!

Of course the quality may not last through multiple seasons, but I’m usually ok with that, as I never have the funds to invest in high quality shoes, especially on a collection.  But since most of them are heels and wouldn’t be getting tones and tonnes of everyday wear, i think they’d last until next year at least!

july wishlist // forever21+

forever 21+ wishlist // margot meanie

This wishlist is a BIG one!!  Since I’m not currently working, my spending budget has been nil and it’s kind of been killing me a little bit.   This is generally a time of year that I’m refreshing my summer wardrobe and bringing in some sorely needed new pieces {like swimsuits!!} but alas, I am stuck drooling at the {online} window.

If I had money right now, these would all be one their way to me already!

top row left to right

// Heart-Shaped Sunglasses

// Retro Cat-Eye Sunglasses

// F2009 Half-Frame Sunglasses

I have a thing for sunnies and I especially have a thing for cat eye & heart shaped sunnies!  I like to keep a collection as they all work so wonderfully with different outfits and I find they can really change the tone of a look.

2nd row left to right

// Poetic Dream Crochet Blouse

// Dynamite Sheer Gathered Top

// Raglan Crop Top

I kinda really need some new tops, some of mine are beginning to look a bit shabby.  The navy blouse is super cute, especially with it’s crocheted yolk.  The breezy, sheer, gathered top would work well with tonnes of items I have, not to mention as a great cover up for the swim suits and I’d love to get a nice basic black crop for a lot of everyday looks.

3rd row left to right

// Classic Straw Boater

// Chic Open-Knit Bowler Hat

I’ve been craving a natural straw boater hat for a few months now, this one is perfect and cheap!  I’m always on the look out for cute bowlers as well, I like this one in straw, so it’s not too hot to wear in the summer heat.

4th row left to right

// Nouveau Deco Bodycon Dress

// Retro Dot Surplice Romper

//Mesh-Trimmed Bodycon Dress

I’ve been aching for the deco & mesh trimmed bodycon dresses for a while now, especially after seeing them both on fellow bloggers.  They’re fabulous for evening occasions & the playsuit is perfect for day!

5th row left to right

// Geo Faux Leather Cuff

// Subtle Geo Midi Rings

// Cutout Crescent Necklace

I love the gold & faux leather cuff, as I generally love geometric patterns, especially in jewelry, but I also already have the matching earrings! I really like the simple shapes on this set of midi rings and that bib necklace is AWESOME!

6th row left to right

// Goddess Cutout Swimsuit

// Polka Dot Bow Shorts

// Midnight Mesh Swimsuit

Last but not least for summer, swimsuits and shorts!!  I am severely lacking in both as of right meow.  I really love all the fatkini’s going around, but for myself, personally, I still like a one piece and these two black numbers are right up my alley!!  They’re both classy, but each have a special feature on each one.  I also like black swimsuits {or darker, solid colours} as they’re a bit mysterious and sexy as well!  And, how CUTE are these shorts?!!  Polka dots…bows…high waisted…I want them so BAD!!!

“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”  -Coco Chanel

“Women think of all colors except the absence of color. I have said that black has it all. White too. Their beauty is absolute.  It is the perfect harmony.”  -Coco Chanel

Today’s outfit is 100% inspired by the first lady of style, Coco Chanel.  Though I sadly, do not own a single Chanel piece I have often taken my cues from Chanel.

I grew up watching Fashion Television, which had a huge impact on me.  I love the art that comes with design and styling.  I think growing up and constantly looking at high fashion has trickled down into how I now dress, even on my low budget fashion level.

This look is simple, but I adhered to Coco’s famous advice and took off an item before shooting  today’s look.   I also find much comfort in black & white outfits.  I think they can speak so loudly, even with the absence of a bright colour.

I am unabashedly, a HUG Harry Potter nerd!!

In fact, such a Potterphile, that my very first blog post on here about 10 months go was a about a Harry Potter party that I hosted and went full tilt on! {please excuse how long winded it is, it was my first time back to blogging for seven or so years!! oh and I first named this blog Miss Meanie goes to Paris, which was equally long winded, so I changed that pretty quick!}

I have a huge collection of cool HP bric-à-brac, most of which I brought back last year after visiting the most magical place on earth, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! We have most of it out on display, but we really want to get  a better shelf to display all our curious & magical items.  The wands are still in their boxes and we’d really like to get a stand to display them more nicely.

It had occurred to me, that although I had mentioned purchasing this top back in March when I was down at ECCC, I had never actually taken any outfit shots with it!

It’s actually one of the staples in my wardrobe right now, on account of it being A) a crop top B) the most lightweight soft material ever C)being black & D) it’s wonderfully nerdy! I actually altered this a bit.  I took the straps up, as I hate big gaping armholes that show off my bra, which also made it a shorter crop top, which worked well for me!

//what i wore//

I wouldn’t normally wear the kitty ears out with this outfit, but I was in a fun mood.  It also occurred to me, that I never smile in any of my photos, so that has been remedied in this post!

//deathly hallows crop – android sheep, they only have one size, but it fits pretty well, if just a tad snug which makes the lines look rippled

//pleated skater skirt & geometric cuff – forever21+

//skinny belt w/gold cross & suspender tights – ASOS curve, sadly these did not live as long as I had hoped.  The thinner nylon on the top is just full of runs {or ladders a they call them in the UK}

//shoes – thrifted

//moon pendant necklace – a gift from my mom & step dad.  The image is of the phase the moon was in when I was born!

Well, that is my witchpoo look!  You know, with it being Wednesday and the whole, on “Wednesday’s we wear black” that seems to be a new mantra of mine!

Are you a crazy potterphile too?  Or are you part of any other fandom??  I’m kind of a fangirl for a lot of fandoms! Let me know what you’re into!!

Look at how gorgeous this sheer maxi is!! Just LOOK!!

It’s not a surprise that I am a HUGE fan of black chiffon and I absolutely LOVE maxi’s as well!  What a perfect summer look!

I adore the long line cardi too, and who doesn’t love a classic, over sized, designer bag to make the perfect “yes, I’m effortlessly chic” statement?

Just gorgeous!

Oh my goodness, how fabulous does Dionne look in this absolutely gorgeous dress from the ASOS Salon line???  I have been wanting to write a piece on being a modern flapper girl with the Salon dresses as the key items!

She just looks beyond glamorous!  She got the look spot on and I’m super jealous that I don’t have this entire ensemble in my closet right meow!!

The jewelry she chose is perfect and the shoes are a lovely contrast to the dark dress, but still have just as much glitz and that purse is so much fun!

She looks like a perfect lady, completely pulled together and totally on trend with the sheer elements!

wishlist // the clutch

clutches

One thing about being a fashion or style blogger is you are always looking for the perfect accent to your outfit.  Some sort of punctuation and a clutch can be just that item!

I really love the trend of an over sized clutch lately, but even just a small clutch can compliment an outfit so nicely.  It’s a wonderful statement in taste!

I’ve been finding my clothing choices lately to be very monochrome, which works well, since it seems to be fairly on trend.  But I find myself wanting a little something extra for each look and I think it’s the clutch that’s been missing!

These are a few of my top clutches I’ve seen while online window shopping lately!  (Don’t forget that hologram clutch from last weeks ASOS wishlist as well!!)

1//Patent Leatherette Clutch – Forever 21. Cute and ready for a party & it’s on sale for $13.99!!

2//Nali 3D Stone Clutch Bag – ASOS, I love how bold this bag is! It’s large, bright yellow and studded! Be still, my beating heart!

3//Cutwork Clutch, SimplyBe, I adore the laser cut and the bright pink underlay! I also love that this one comes with a crossbody strap!

4//Vegas Cutout Clutch, Fashion to Figure.  I have been enamored with this bag since GarnerStyle posted it on facebook a couple months ago.  It also comes in a great yellow, but is sadly sold out in that colour right meow.

5//Modernist Faux Leather Clutch, Forever 21. Ultra simple & chic clutch that will work with absolutely any outfit!

6//Elusive Edition Bag, ModCloth.  This novelty clutch has a curious whimsy to it that just draws me in.  Absolutely perfect for witchy days or Harry Potter inspired outfits!!

What kind of bag are you coveting right now?

PS.  If you are wanting to see more of what I’m up to, like what I’m reading or listening to, or more ootd’s, make sure to follow me on instagram & facebook!

Audrey from Big or not to big // friday i'm in love #25 // margotmeanie.comAudrey from Big or not to big // friday i'm in love #25 // margotmeanie.com

Audrey is a lovely French blogger.  Though I can’t understand the text on her blog, I still love looking at her pictures!  She has a tremendous sense of style that I just adore!  She’s usually very feminine in great dresses and perfect accessories, but there’s something about this catsuit that is just so très chic!  The fabric looks soft, comfortable and luxurious and the lace detail on the cap sleeve and décolletage is so lovely!

I absolutely LOVE the obi wrap leather belt and the pops of coral in the necklace and shoes are just perfect.

Amanda from In The Thick Of It // friday i'm in love #25 // margotmeanie.com Amanda from In The Thick Of It // friday i'm in love #25 // margotmeanie.com

I know it seems like it just wouldn’t be a friday i’m in love without a style blogger with short white blonde hair, but I swear, I’m not doing it on purpose!!

I just love how casual rock n roll this look is.  It’s super simple with the rock tee, perfectly fitting black skinnies, demin jacket and metallic pumps. The look just pulls together so well!  (it also helps it’s a Siouxsie shirt, I love  me some Siouxsie Sioux!)

You can follow Amanda on her blog or instagram!

Lauren from Goodbye Hollywood // friday i'm in love #25 // margotmeanie.com Lauren from Goodbye Hollywood // friday i'm in love #25 // margotmeanie.com

I am a super fan of button-up dresses, especially button-up dresses with some sort of embellishment on the collar! I quite like the pattern of the dress and definitely love the contrasting yolk.  The nude heels are great and really make her legs look miles long!

I know I’ve recently featured Isabell, but hotdamn, look at this babe-erliness!! She is easily one of  my favourite style bloggers!  This bonus feature is also compounded with the fact that I was just eyeing this dress up on Forever 21 myself the day before she posted this!

This is the epitome of the little black dress, it fits just right, is super sexy and will work for many occasions!

wishlist // ASOS monochrome summer

wishlist // ASOS monochrome summer // margotmeanie.com

wishlist // ASOS monochrome summer // margotmeanie.com

I just have to start with saying how ridiculously happy I am to have photoshop back!!  I was reeeeally missing making these wishlists so very much!

I also had the idea to redo my blog space a bit, but had to wait until I had access to photoshop again to do up the changes.  I’m super happy with the results, what do you think?

Secondly, I am LOVING what ASOS has in shop right now!

I’m a complete & total fan of monochrome and I love all the options they have.  I know these looks aren’t 100% monochrome as there is a teeny amount of colour in the holographic clutch and the lining of the Victorian lace blouse, but I think it’s subdued enough to add some fun to an overall monochrome look.

I’ve been loving all the ropers around, but haven’t felt like I’d found the right one for me just yet and I think I have finally landed on it!  I love the buttons and it seems super light and breezy.  How cute would it look with that white blazer??  This look is perfectly edgy, especially adding in the masculine studded shoes.  Though you could femme it up with adding those every so bad ass laser cut  heels.

I’m always on the fence when it comes to very open back dresses, as I absolutely love how they look but am apprehensive of them on myself as I always have to wear a bra, but in the case of this sheer chiffon cage back dress by Truly You, I think the design easily lends itself to be worn with a blatant bra showing ala Carrie Bradshaw.  And look how pretty and flowy it is!! Add some rock in roll sandals and I’m set!

I. Love. This. Skirt!

But I’m also scared of it, because it is white and me and white are often a messy match.  But its so pretty and I am loving the sheer panel.  I’ve been seeing variations of this skirt all over the blogosphere and it just makes me want it more.  It’d be like a test, can be grown up enough to wear this and not spill?  A challenge I am willing to take on!

I think what I love about all the shoes featured, is though they are all fairly different, they could easily go with each outfit and change the feel instantly!

I’m busy trying to get used to my new laptop (YAY!).  It’s an HP and I’m sad to admit how dreadful I am now with PCs these day’s as I’ve spent all my time on macs for the last four years.  I was even thinking about downloading a skin to make it run like OS just so I can get my bearings.

I’m doubly excited this week,  because in addition to my new computer I also have plans to head out with a friend to take some proper & professional shots with his new camera!  I’m really looking forward to that, as I’m hating the grainy low quality photos I’ve been posting lately with my ipad.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my ipad dearly, it’s been really helpful to still get outfit shots done, but the camera is not the best and if it’s an overcast day, I loose the ability to take even halfway decent shots.

// what I wore //

I love monochrome, as you’ve probably noticed, most of my wardrobe is either black / white / grey or  off white.  My wardrobe is always running slim on pattern and colour.

This week I wore one of my favourite tops that I have owned FOREVER!  I sometimes think of letting it go, but something makes me keep it.  And Every time I wear it, I’m thankful I never let it go!

This skirt is just a perfect pleated skater skirt I got last winter while down in Las Vegas.  It’s the perfect basic and just makes so many outfits!

The real inspiration for this outfit though comes from the earrings.  They’re just tiny Eiffel tower danglies that I inherited from my Mother-in-law and I’ve always treasured them.  I know they are not worth a lot of money and that you can get these little trinkets on every street corner in Paris, but it still does nothing to diminish their charm for me!

They’re cute and remind me of Paris, a city that I truly love and can’t wait to go visit again.  Perhaps someday I’ll have an apartment there!
