ooh, don’t I just feel like a fairy tale princess in this fabulous dress….albeit a gothy looking one.  Especially with my new black hair and my choice in the darkest of purple lipsticks.

Late in the summer I was fortunate enough to win some items from the indie design label Zelie for She through an instagram contest.  I received them in September and kept meaning to get photos but I was struggling with light in my apartment.  So I finally took to the outdoors to get some witchy photos.

This here is the “Dark Rose” dress that was part of her summer line.  I’m ecstatic that this is one of the items I received as it was my hands down favourite piece! Underneath is an orange pencil skirt also by her.  I figured the orange and black were a perfect pairing for this time of year!

I think my favourite part of this dress is not just the edgy design or the fabulous sheer fabric, but the voluminous skirt!  This skirt makes you want to TWIRL.  I get excited when there’s a gust of wind because this dress looks FIERCE all puffed up with wind! And I really like having to grab handfuls of the fabric to walk up stairs, that is probably the most princess-y feeling ever!

Zelie for She now has a new line out called Dark Romance and it’s just perfect for fall! I love the colours and the textures!

Love This Sunday // margot meanie

I often wear a lot of black, so much so, that I even made it my blogs tagline.  But that doesn’t stop me from still being playful with colour!  I do love surprising people with wearing tons of cute colours paired with sweet accessories and bright make-up. {though I did still manage to pack a lot of black in this outfit anyway!}

This week I’m wearing a cheeky jelly bean swimsuit gifted from Love This Sunday.  They are a kitschy fun swimwear company that just recently expanded their sizing up to a 3x!!!

To celebrate the new size range, they invited me to pick one of their suits and style it in my own way that could be worn year round.

Now, they have some freakin’ CUTE prints which made it hard to pick; french fries, hamburgers, breakfast food bikini’s..to die for!! But when my eye rested on the Jelly Bean one piece I was purely smitten!

I was super impressed with the colour and quality of material when I first opened my parcel, but then a little concerned that perhaps the print on the suit would look broken or washed out once it was on me.  Happily, it didn’t it held up beautifully and vibrantly!  I ordered the 3x and it fits quite nice, but I am a very busty gal and it sits a wee low on the décolletage, so I plan to wear a bright coloured bandeau when I go swimming in it.  I really love the low scoop on the back as well!

I’m very happy with this swimsuit and super stoked to jump in my friends pool with it on!

Things to keep in mind:

I ordered the 3x, I am an 18/20 US and it just fits me.  It’s not going to fit on much larger bodies sadly though if you are smaller in the bust it should work if you’re a size larger. Hopefully these will be a wild success and maybe  they’ll include more sizes again!! It does not have any support for the girls, so if you are larger busted, you may need to wear a bra or add a bandeau for modesty or comfort.

But I must say it again, the print is the CUTEST and the quality is aces!!  I love this suit and I Love This Sunday! <3

These are the last outfit photos I took before I dyed my hair blue!

This was for a date day I had during my anniversary week off.  We went for tea and to stock up on our favourite cream earl grey, as well as for ice cream and the items for a Parisien picnic.  I meant to get photos of it all, but we were having fun and it was blisteringly hot out so I completely forgot to document the rest of the day.  Though I did post a photo on instagram of the picnic, which ended up being inside our shady place as opposed to the garden, which was just far too warm.

what i wore:

//pyramid studded top – forever21+ last fall {similar} {similar}

//rev velvet midi skirt – The Curvy Elle vintage shop, {similar} {similar}

//sandals – ModCloth

If you follow me on instagram, then you know I was celebrating ten years together with my partner this past Thursday!!  It’s crazy to think a whole blissful decade has passed since we first got together!!  We have shared in so many adventures, triumphs, hardships and joys.

I also gave the heads up that our wedding anniversary was not even a week later. Four years ago today, on a very hot afternoon on Friday the 13th in East Vancouver, I married my favourite person on the planet.

We had a blast of a wedding, as we had a full out rock n roll, carnival wedding!  We were decked out in vintage carnival games, hand painted photo cutouts and a home built photo booth!

The day was a huge success due to weeks & weeks of DIY work by both ourselves, family and close friends, which we will eternally be grateful for! Everything from the massive props and signs, to the candy apple bouquet, to my dress & dessert table was the result of hard work from amazing people I’m honoured to know & love.

It was a wonderful day, surrounded by so many of our favourite people, partying it up and celebrating love.

I hope you enjoy these photos, most were taken by a photographer friend, Fatal Pixels.

// my blog as a mix tape // july

my blog as a mixtape // july // margotmeanie.comWelcome to {My Blog As A Mix Tape}  This is inspired by a challenge put forth by the wonderful Joie Fatale, which I have turned into a monthly feature here!

I like to be classic and true to a mix tape, marking the songs on an “a” side & “b” side, though I have compiled them together on my 8track playlist for ease of listening.

I truly enjoy doing these monthly mixes.  It really gives me a time to reflect on the last month and see where I’ve been at emotionally and mentally.

I’d be lying if I said a lot of these weren’t heavily influenced from movie soundtracks, like The Great Gatsby & Romeo + Juliet {it’s been a Baz Luhrmann kinda month}.

I love the saying “live your life like a movie”  I find I romanticize life a lot and I’m not really sorry about it either. Here is my July in a mix tape, or “my life as a movie soundtrack” for the month,  I hope you enjoy…

side A

// white town – your woman

//mr. scruff – jazz potato

//saint pepsi – mr wonderful

//moby – flower

//nightmares on wax –  you wish

//moon dog – birds lament

//ben l’oncle soul – seven nation army {cover}

//robyn – call your girlfriend

side B

//sonic youth – superstar {cover}

//echo and the bunnymen – the killing moon

//joy division – love will tear us apart

//radiohead – high & dry

//the cardigans – my favourite game

//sia – kill and run& beautiful

//nick cave & the bad seeds – the ship song

If your life were a movie, what would be on your soundtrack?

{you can listen to  May & June}

This week, in lieu of my normal {friday i’m in love} I am joining a amazingly fun group of bloggers and participating in a fun challenge! (this helps as I have been away for the week and not seen any outfits to post)

The challenge is to recreate the look of a Style Icon!  At first I toyed with ideas are Marlene Dietrich, but I just don’t have the proper pant suits I’d like in order to portray her, so my mind pondered and Anna Piaggi floated to the top pretty quick!

I have always been a HUGE fan of the a particular part of the fashion elite known as the eccentrics!  I adore their wild abandon when it comes to fashion and love how many of them act as muses for talented designers.  For them, fashion is truly a way of life and everyday is a work of art!

I recreated 3 looks by her and had an absolute blast playing with the theatrical make up, whimsical accessories and textures in the items she choose.

I admire her gusto and zest for eccentricity!

This weeks participants in the Style Icon Challenge are:

//  Michelle from Zaftigtimes

//  Aarti from Curves Become Her

//  Zadry from Curves à la Mode

// Veronica from Cid Style File

This was a lot of fun to do, though extremely hot!  Summer plus hat & fur & layers is a crazy mix!!

I cannot wait to see what each lady did!  I’m so happy to have the chance to participate!
