{ coveting } edgy accessories

I am 100% a total day dreamer.

I find I can easily drift away into thought, meanwhile my body is left looking like it’s staring at a fly on the wall.

My day dreams are vast, entertaining and often { and surprisingly to a few } productive.

I know it seems like day dreaming should be the opposite of productive, but I read somewhere that if you follow your mind to where it drifts then you will find where your passions lay.  And you know where my passions lay?

Fashion!

Seriously, I spend a absurd amount of time planning outfits for the  next day/blog post/event or dream outfits I wish I had or clothes I wish to design.  I think about clothing, adornments, make up & style an astoundingly, silly amount.

Which, happily leads to posts like this

Today I am sharing some edge that I wish I could get my paws on, if only I currently had a disposable income and shopping budget.  Some day, when freelance/blogging starts paying the big bucks { or any bucks actually }, I am going to have one killer closet!!

I think these are all excellent pieces to mix & match for some fiercely edgy looks. I could easily make three or four outfits with these pieces and maybe a loose fitting sheer black tunic and I think it would look original each time!

Now I just need to learn how to draft some patterns and make that tunic, eh?

What do you day dream about??

back to black

With Valentines fast approaching it’s awfully hard to not want to rock a romantic outfit.

Although I don’t celebrate the day in the normal sense, that doesn’t mean I still can’t sport a lacy frock if I want to!

I picked up this dress from f21 while I was in Las Vegas last winter.  It’s kind of a perfect date night or party dress with it’s tulle skirt and lacy bodice.  I’ve seen them bring it back twice now, once in a beautiful shade of oxblood, so I’d keep an eye out for it as you never know, it may make yet another return and I highly recommend it.

For once, the fit is dead on.  No squished boobs, no hugely gaping armholes, no waistband coming across the bust line because there is not adequate fabric to cover the ladies!  It was definitely a a glorious moment being able to try something on in store and know it was coming home with me!

So I did something tricky here and added a “strap” to my clutch by putting a beaded necklace under the flap! I thought I was being pretty clever!

You can also see, the black hair is gone.  This is a brief stop over in the land of auburn, I’ll give it a month and then I’ll be hitting the bleach bottle up again in an attempt to get it light enough to attempt grey, but I need to get all traces of red out to realise that dream first!

I’ve gone around online and found some similar styles & some personal favs of romantic little black dresses for you to shop at your own leisure, as little black dresses always come in handy, regardless of the date…

your favourite colour is that of red wine

monochrome & lens flare // margot meanie

There is no colour in this post, other than the lens flare {look out JJ Abrams!} so the name of this post is misleading, the words are lyrics from a song that is often playing in the back of my mind,

“your favourite colour is that of red wine, which leads me to your favourite past time”

If you scroll to the bottom, the song is ready to play.  It’s pretty mellow.

This is just a simple black and white outfit.  I’m dying to get my hands on a couple black blazers.  I really want a nice cropped one, a sturdy basic one, as well as a long line blazer, a tuxedo blazer and a long line sleeveless blazer.  But for now, my draped cardigan will have to do.

leggings – ASOS {these were the same ones a couple of posts ago}, blouse – forever 21 {similarsimilar mine is sleeveless, these both have sleeves}, vest, reitmans+ from yeeeeears ago, shoes & cardigan are thrifted

Here are a few of the blazers I’ve been lusting after

shirt dress // margot meanie

There is something about a dress that can make it look like you put a lot of thought and effort into creating an outfit, when really, you just threw it on.

Today I am rocking one of my fav pieces to wear, the shirt dress.

This particular shirt dress is from Ross, I can’t remember if it’s from the one in downtown Seattle or downtown Portland.  I always seem to have luck in Ross, I will almost always find something and it will be dirt cheap.  I believe this dress was $13.

Whenever I’m in the states, I make an effort to find a Ross or Marshalls, as they usually have cheap plus items, though the selections in the Seattle and Portland store where significantly smaller then the massive selections and finds to that of the Ross on the Las Vegas strip {that store is CRAZY, I once bought 3 Betsey Johnson purses for $5-15 each and got two cocktail dresses, one was $11 and one was on sale for $7…is that not ridiculous?!!}

But back to this dress.  This is a shirt dress and I just love how versatile this style can be.  It makes a lovely daytime dress, can be professional looking for an office or an interview and can be jazzed up with some jewelry and some bangin shoes for a dinner out.

I usually opt to leave the top buttons undone on this, but I was feeling it all buttoned up the other day.  I also like the straps to hold the sleeves up if you choose to roll them up, but there is a nice double button detail if you choose to wear the sleeves down.

I’m also wearing my New Look Inspire waterfall jacket {from last year, here’s a similar one} which you have seen on me oodles of times now.  It’s just a perfect jacket, especially for Vancouver.  Here I am in the middle of January and this was all the jacket I needed for our weather lately.  I like that I can layer a hoodie or sweater easily underneath to warm it up and it still looks rad!

gold lion’s gonna tell me where the light is

margot meanie

this is just a quick ‘hello!’ of an outfit post.  I’ve been a busy bee with the holidays arriving what with crafting, baking, decorating, making gift guides and birthdays I have been absent from taking outfit photos.

So this is from Sunday when I went down to a craft fare with Mister Meanie and one of my favourite couples to hang with, Amanda & Amelia.  After the market, we stopped in a beer tasting room for some samples and then split off to do some x-mas shopping.

This spot seemed ideal for a quick photo session so I asked the mister to take some photos before the light was gone.

Trying to get photos with the waning light has been a struggle.  It’s on the weekend or not at all and if the weather is wet, it ends up being not at all.

I can’t really link to anything I’m wearing as it’s either older, vintage,  thrifted or from Ross in Las Vegas.  But the skirt and hat are both from Forever21, but the skirt is a few years old meow and the hat is well over a year old at this point.  the jacket is by New Look from ASOS last year there are similar ones in stock though {here & here}

I’m really hoping for some snow, but it’s incredibly unlikely in this part of Canada.  We only get a few weeks at best, but if we do get it, you better believe I’ll be out there in a heartbeat trying to get multiple outfit sets.

It seems the rainy season is taking it’s grasp here in Vancouver.  I’ve lost my light, which sounds so dramatic, but really it’s just that I’ve had no luck taking indoor photos as I really rely on the afternoon light that fills half my home.

Luckily it was a clear, sunny and gorgeous day to take a ferry across to visit some friends on Vancouver Island.  With the sun out and a beautiful nautical backdrop I wrangled my husband into taking photos of me {which really isn’t much of a wrangle, he’s pretty keen on helping me out for photos}.

So this is what I wore for my ferry ride!  I’ve been meaning to get a photo of this dress from ASOS for over 2 weeks now.  Damn you grey skies!  Don’t get me wrong, I love the rain, I’m just annoyed that it’s getting in the way of me being able to grab my own shots at home which can prove to be even more problematic during the very dreary Vancouver winter I’m looking ahead to.  But it worked out for the best as this is a lovely location and is a refreshing change to have some outdoor photos!

Back to this dress, ASOS CURVE Cami Dress With Lace Trim  it’s still available online and it’s on a crazy clearance deal, only $34 cdn!!  I ordered this in a UK 24, I was about to get a 22 but last minute changed my mind and I’m happy I did.

I adore how this fits.

You know how sometimes you put an item on and you just feel right?? That happened immediately in this! I felt so sexy and stylish.  It’s just enough of a flapper feel for me, but remaining completely in the modern era.

I will get a TON of wear out of this dress!

I paired this with my New Look Inspire waterfall faux leather jacket that I got last year, {similar} to keep it edgy and to keep any fall chill at bay!

In other news, tomorrow is my 1 year blogaversary!!  I’ll have a little write up of my feelings on the last year I’ve spent blogging!
