lookbook | Ready to Stare

One of my FAVOURITE things about blogging is getting to sneak peek at lookbooks by your favourite brands and designers.  So when Alysse of Ready to Stare posted how excited she was about the lookbook and the launch, I HAD to get in touch to see if I could take a look!

My jaw hit the floor when I saw the sample of images she sent and I had to ask for more details on a few of my favourite pieces!

I’m gonna let you experience that feeling right meow! Details on the launch below.

Did your jaw just hit the floor?!  Not only are the photos stunning, but the pieces shine right though!

My personal favs would include the “Simone Ladder Body Chain” which is the black chest harness, the “Nicki Caged Body Chain” which has a slightly more dainty and intricate front detail and I’m just dying over the “Laverne back chain” so much so that I included 2 striking photos to open and close my lookbook choices.  Not only are the two photos stunning, but the mix of chain weights has me swooning!

a little something from the designer:

The collection is inspired by powerful women living their daily lives confidently and authentically. The collection features 12 different body chains, belts, head chains, anklets and introduces leg chains for the first time to the Ready to Stare family of everyday statement pieces. Every piece in the collection is named after a famous feminist of today or the past such as Lucy Stone and Laverne Cox. Pieces range from $35-$99 and are available in sizes S-5X.

The lookbook was shot by Cleveland photographer Linda Ford across two days and features nine different models varying from a size 2 to a size 26. The lookbook shows models both in basic black swimwear paired with the body chains and 90s vintage garments to show you that body chains are for every body and every occasion. The vintage garments will also be on sale. Hair and make-up was done by Mary-Morgan Byrd.

I think my favourite name is for the silver thigh chain { which can come with a garter strap if you so chose! } which is the “I Met God She’s Black”. LOVE IT!

The collection is available TODAY on etsy and you can also check out more images from this lookbook on readytostare.com.

Thank you Alysse for letting me share this today! I adore supporting indie designers and brands, especially those who value inclusivity! I cannot wait to get my paws on a couple of these chains!

outfit | House of Fraser & junarose

I couldn’t help but be woo’ed by this little black number by Danish brand, Junarose.  I have been admiring their brand for sometime, but had yet to indulge myself.  So when I was approached by House of Fraser, who wanted to get the word out about their ever expanding plus department, to pick an item I was like “HELLS YES!”

Up until then, I had been aware of House of Fraser, but was woefully unaware that they ship to Canada.  I’m very happy to be adding a new destinaion for Canadian plus sized shoppers!

It was reeeeeally hard to pick.  Their plus selection is truly diverse and incredibly well stocked with fashionable items!

In the end the  little black dress spoke to me the loudest, perhaps it’s because it was also the sparkliest!

I styled this dress a couple different ways.

Honestly, this dress does not require any additional adornments, as it, itself is a jewel!  But I wanted to share a few ways to do up this dress for different events.

The first look a bit more edgy and would be great for a dolled up house party.  I accessorized with some chunky platform boots and some geometric silver jewelry.  I did a smoky eye, with strong winged eyeliner {kinda a staple in my make up routine} and I did a softer lip, which was a Covergirl creme lipstick called “romantic”.

The other, a little more classic and perfect for a work holiday party or a New Years event.  I went with a simple, yet impressive heel and some big bling in my ears.  With this look I kept the strong upper lid eyeliner, but did a super sparkly soft pinky peach, eyeshadow as my lower lid eyeliner, while rocking a red ombre lip.  I used Rimmel’s Kate Moss branded matte lipstick in #107, which has been a favourite of mine since I got it {I actually need a new one} and I used a burgundy eye shadow from an Almay palette, to contour the outer lip.

The clutch and both these shoes are from my recent score whilst thrift shopping, I took better photos of them and shared them on my instagram.

I’ve already worn this once, to the closing night of V.Alt and I’m looking forward to more occasions and parties in the near future to bring this one out!

From Domino Dollhouse:

For our Winter 2014 collection, we wanted to focus on 2 things: fashion and wearability. Inspired by movies like
Bladerunner and Tron, we wanted to offer something the plus size community had never seen before. For our
Science/Visions collection, we are offering a taste of everyday luxury in a way that is anything but basic. We
focused on luscious, soft stretch jerseys and added edge-y accents, such as faux stretch suede and perforated
pleather. These pieces are perfect for everyday wear…the ultimate in cool comfort. This entire collection was
Made in the USA by a plus size woman-owned factory and the quality is superb. The Science/Visions pieces are
available in sizes 1X-4X and range from $35-140. The collection will be launched on 11.14.14.

What do you guys think??  I absolutely adore the palette and the textures look lux and edgy!  I’d love to get my hands on a few pieces, specifically the moon leggings, that silky looking purpley grey crop tee, the geometric print maxi set and that jacket with the perforated faux leather!

As I said… I swoon!

It seems the rainy season is taking it’s grasp here in Vancouver.  I’ve lost my light, which sounds so dramatic, but really it’s just that I’ve had no luck taking indoor photos as I really rely on the afternoon light that fills half my home.

Luckily it was a clear, sunny and gorgeous day to take a ferry across to visit some friends on Vancouver Island.  With the sun out and a beautiful nautical backdrop I wrangled my husband into taking photos of me {which really isn’t much of a wrangle, he’s pretty keen on helping me out for photos}.

So this is what I wore for my ferry ride!  I’ve been meaning to get a photo of this dress from ASOS for over 2 weeks now.  Damn you grey skies!  Don’t get me wrong, I love the rain, I’m just annoyed that it’s getting in the way of me being able to grab my own shots at home which can prove to be even more problematic during the very dreary Vancouver winter I’m looking ahead to.  But it worked out for the best as this is a lovely location and is a refreshing change to have some outdoor photos!

Back to this dress, ASOS CURVE Cami Dress With Lace Trim  it’s still available online and it’s on a crazy clearance deal, only $34 cdn!!  I ordered this in a UK 24, I was about to get a 22 but last minute changed my mind and I’m happy I did.

I adore how this fits.

You know how sometimes you put an item on and you just feel right?? That happened immediately in this! I felt so sexy and stylish.  It’s just enough of a flapper feel for me, but remaining completely in the modern era.

I will get a TON of wear out of this dress!

I paired this with my New Look Inspire waterfall faux leather jacket that I got last year, {similar} to keep it edgy and to keep any fall chill at bay!

In other news, tomorrow is my 1 year blogaversary!!  I’ll have a little write up of my feelings on the last year I’ve spent blogging!

The Design Collective For Evans @ London Fashion Week

I’ve been green with envy watching so many bloggers enjoy both New York Fashion Week and now London Fashion Week, but I have no right to be as I was granted an All Access media pass to Vancouver’s Fashion Week which is going on right now!!

I’ve been unable to attend any shows yet, but I’m hoping to pop into a quick one tonight right before I head to see LA Roux in concert {it’s been a good week, as I just won tickets to see her!} and then Friday night as well as Sunday night look like they will be fun to see!

The only thing is, there does not seem to be any plus size fashion showing in my neck of the woods.  But that’s where it gets exciting.  I’ve seen snippets here and there on instagram of the Evans show in London and I was really happy to watch the full show last night as it’s been uploaded to youtube, so I’m going to share that here with you guys!!

Watch this video and follow my favourite looks in the description below!

My personal favourites being:

Look 2, which is an amazing print and makes her bum look delicious, look 4 which is edgy and flowy and sheer, a trifecta for me! Seems like there is a designer changes as things get a modern/vintage twist.  Look 9 is making me truly feel contemporary flapper it definitely giving a nod to the era, but remaining truthful to the current fashion.  I appreciated the vintage Hollywood glam in looks 12 & 14, though I wouldn’t personally wear either, they are lovely and I love the fabrics used in both.  Look 15 continues with the vintage Hollywood glam and let me just say, I wish I had events to wear this amazing green dress to!! The structure & colour are to die for!!

The show takes another turn at this point {change of designer again?}, but just sign me up for that black button up dress already! I want it, gimme gimme!! {and c’mon, those visors are kinda amazeballs!}  I’ll also gladly take the sheer striped dress which, I believe, is look 17 {? I’m losing track} I have a similar waterfall pleather jacket that I purchased from ASOS last year {I believe it’s a New Look design} that would recreate the look perfectly! Look 18 is simple with nice detailing on the crisscross straps, I think it would fit in nicely to anyone’s closet.

Now I’ve completely lost track of numbers, but the asymmetrical periwinkle chiffon dress paired with that extra long gauzy cardigan just makes me dream of white sandy beaches, I’m down.  Why, hello there hi/low sheer peplum top, can we be friends now??  I kinda love that laser cut silver pencil skirt and I’d totally style it with the just mentioned sheer peplum!  I’m feeling that pleated midi skirt, it’d be a lot of fun in the summer, though, it could be fun in the winter too, all shimmering & icy!  I can picture it ice skating, you know, if I ice skated.

And then, there it is, the item I have been looking forward to with bated breathe.  I had only seen ever it so briefly on instagram, the sheer holographic dress!  I want it, like,  yesterday!! I was dying to really see that amazing sheer holographic dress!! I’m completely smitten!  I want to wear it with Chromat or Zana  Bayne or Teale Coco harness’s and accessories!! {which all brands cater to all body sizes!}

What do you think, what were your favourite looks?
