Hey babes! As I was laying down, trying my mightiest to tumble into the sleep my mind went into hyperdrive, as it often does. Does anyone else have the affliction of coming up with your most brilliant ideas just before you fall asleep only to wake in the morning to either have forgotten it’s brilliance or realised maybe it’s not so bright after all? I find I often write out the most eloquent and poised blog posts in my mind before I strugglingly drift off into oblivion and then when I wake up finally ready to write, I fall short of how well I had composed my thoughts the night before and I end up trashing my idea.
Well, I’m gonna start leaving notes to myself when I get a brilliant idea, or I’m gonna auto dictate my thoughts into the notepad on my ipad. Because I can’t keep having all my best stuff extinguished by the light of day. This post here is a result of writing down an idea that I think is fun and kinda great. It’s all about taking a super basic no frills look and how accessories can change the style and vibe you emit.
Since it’s summer, I’m looking at the basic tank top and cut offs duo. It’s kind of an unspoken summer uniform for so many of us, it’s easy, comfortable and not too hot. It gets the job done of covering our bodies when the summer heat is yelling at us to leave our clothes behind but it doesn’t say much about our own personal style, so I thought why not show how adding accessories to the same basic look can completely change what you want to say about yourself on any particular day without having to utter a word!
So here are FOUR Ways to Elevate a Basic Look with Accessories
Easy Breezy Beach Babe:
This look is the easiest and most relaxed, but by adding just a crocheted crop top, some cute sunnies and a necklace you really level up your look! I also recommend tucking in your tank top. I know, I know, tucking in can be a bit intimidating, but once you start you’re gonna love how it looks! I used to think wearing a long shirt somehow hid my belly, yeah, it doesn’t work that way, so I might as well just roll with my rolls and look cute while doing so!
Ok, I know, my version is very gothy, but that’s just me. This look will be just a flippin cute with a white tank top and cut off blue jeans. I know flower crowns were all the rage a couple seasons ago, but they’re so adorable that I think you can still rock them even though they’re not the hottest current trend. There is just something so sweet about a floral look accented by a flower crown that is perfect for summer.
I also realised I have the best sunnies to go with this look, they have little resin flowers at the temples. They’re so cute and have not gotten any play this year, but that’s gonna change right this second!
Catty Bitch Realness:
Ok, I had no good idea what to name this, but I look kinda bitchy and I’m wearing cat-eye sunglasses, so I rolled with it. I picked up this awesome over-sized men’s button up dress form Forever21+ last month and I have yet properly document it, so here is it’s soft blog debut. I simply threw it over top of the tank and shorts, added a big fancy headscarf, a fierce red lip and some pointy shades to ramp up the laid back, yet bitchy look.
I adore this look, it’s dark and romantic, but not adding too much heat for a gothy summer look. Because all goths know, summer is the most goth time of year, we suffer the most! Haha!
I nabbed this black velvet fringed kimono from Addition Elle last winter, but there are spades of rad kimonos around this time of year. I added lots of necklaces, some killer shades from Witch Worldwide, my trusty wide brim boater and tons of attitude!
I hope this acts as some styling inspiration for you babes! Let me know how you like to vamp up a basic look!
