outfit | a lesson in layering

Today, I thought I’d bring you an outfit post, as its been a long while since my last one. I admit, I kinda fell into the trap thinking that I should always be sharing something new and something shoppable. I often get requests as to where I bought an item and I never want to let you down and say, “sorry, it’s old stock” or “it’s already sold out”, which I know is a bummer. But I forget that sometimes I can just post an outfit that’s made up of some tried and true items. Let’s face it, no one has the budget to be buying new stuff ALL the time, I know I certainly don’t. So instead I am offering a little lesson in layering with my favourite comfy pieces all layered together in what I consider perfection. Sorry most of the items aren’t current, but maybe it will serve as some inspiration to shop your closet and think up ways to layer existing pieces into a new look!

sweater – c/o Buxom Modern Plus Boutique | Tunic Dress – c/o Society + | pleated leggings – ASOS curve | lug sole platform boots – Urbanog | pink moto jacket – forever21 +

I’m rocking some ASOS pleated leggings I bought well over two years ago, or maybe was it three? This rad as all hell distressed sweater Buxom Modern Plus Boutique kindly sent me back in September, the t-shirt tunic from my first collection with Society+ { then they were going by Cool Gal Blue, I’m such a fan of the new name! }. I’m also sporting some kick ass platform lug sole boots from Urbanog and my new most favourite jacket, from Forever21+ { hey it’s still available on both the Canadian and UK sites! }

Since this look is 90% black, I like to play it up with textures to keep it interesting. The irregular knit in the sweater, layered over and offering peekaboo bits of the smooth silky jersey of my tunic dress all layered over the really interesting horizontal pleats that run the entire length of the leggings. Overall, it makes me feel kinda post apocalyptic chic, he he!

For accessories, I’m wearing the cutest little witch necklace my friend Michelle gave me for Yule, it has two wee little silver pendants, a witch hat and broom . I’m also wearing my Deathly Hallows necklace, I made this out of a keychain bought from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter a few years back. { I really need to replace the chain, the silver plating is coming off, I’d like to get a real silver chain for it. } The fluffy white earrings are from Chubby Cartwheels, my old trusty hat is from F21 years ago, the purse I won in a contest last Summer, it’s from Avenue Plus and the kitty scarf and sunnies are both from my collections with Society+ as well.

I’m still really keen on my new hair. You would have seen my new green hair on my last post, the ColourPop! review and haul, but I wanna celebrate my neon green tresses, even though they’re slightly obscured by my hat. It’s a fun change away from the usual pastels I do. I mixed Punky’s yellow with alpine green and a touch of turquoise to get this colour. I think I want to get it a little more neon next go around and I think for that I’ll invest in some Manic Panic! I;ve been attempting to grow my hair and It’s finally showing, though I find it’s at an awkward length so I often hide it with a hat or put them into bun nubbins or tiny French braid pigtails.  But with that growth, I have been letting the roots grow out as well, which I kind of like the look of, but ‘m thinking I may need to bleach everything out soon so even out the colours and get rid of the darker chunk in my bangs.
